Bad mental hygiene can create many problems if steps aren’t taken to improve your mental health; Wanting to improve your mental health is the first step as doing so starts within. There are small things that you can do, such as; Keeping your room clean and organized, thinking before you speak so that you only say positive things and not spout harmful words, ensure that you have a positive support system, take up a hobby, participate in exercise and good health, and so forth to ensure a good state of mind for an overall good mental health.

  • Feed Your Mind:

You should allow for more warmth and love in your life. This comes from improving the social relations that you have with the people closet to you. You shouldn’t be braggy or narcissistic in your relationships and you should always give people the chance to make their own choices, don’t push your own preferences onto people.

  • Take Care of Your Body:

If you’re not happy about your self-image, you won’t be able to accomplish good mental health; Taking care of yourself physically can help. To take care of your body, you need to; Eat nutritious meals, get enough sleep, drink plenty of water, avoid tobacco use, and exercise. If you suffer from anxiety, depression, and mood swings; Exercise can considerably improve your conditions, as can getting enough sleep.

  • Develop a Hobby:

Through the passion you have for your hobby, you’ll be able to express your emotions and feel progress as you accomplish goals while you do something you actually like. Your mind needs exercise just as much as your body does, it’s a means to channel energy towards something that’s productive rather than self-destructive.

  • Connect with Friends:

If there are a few friendships that have dwindled over your life, try to recover them if you seek to have those people in your life; You can also make new friendships. By having friends and loved ones there for you, you’ll have a good support system that’s essential for having and maintaining good mental health. You should only surround yourself with good people who are going to make you feel good about yourself and spending time with them.

  • Challenge Yourself Every Now and Then:

You’ll want to do things that make you get a sense of self-worth and confidence, such as maintaining a job. Having a career (that you enjoy) can motivate you mentally to be excited to have to go to work. However, if you have a job that you’re not necessarily thrilled about; You can still deal with it. As long as you do the best possible job that you can and treat those around you with respect, you’ll be able to feel satisfied with your career; As satisfaction from your job can only come from yourself and not others.

  • Consume the Right Minerals and Vitamins Daily:

Along with your healthy diet, you should be getting the required daily dose of vitamin E and vitamin C, as well as consuming a diet rich in omega3. You should also be eating such fruits as blackberries and raspberries for their antioxidants as they can help clean up the brain.

  • Set Realistic Goals:

Don’t be too hard on yourself when you’re trying to accomplish something; If you set goals that are too unrealistic to reach, you’ll never get there and you’ll always feel as if you’re failing. Instead, set more realistic goals that are actually within your reach and time schedule. Set little goals along the way to the bigger ones so that you’ll feel accomplished as you continue to reach your main goal, this way it’ll feel like you actually can instead of you can’t.

  • Deal with Your Issues:

While stress may be apart of life, there are ways to cope with it. Exercise, take a walk, write in a journal, play with your pet, do whatever it is that calms you down and helps you alleviate your stress. Also seek out things that make you laugh; Laughter has been shown to reduce stress, among other beneficial things.
